Hmmm... I've been thinking about the best way to answer this one for a while and I'm just gonna go with a "not gonna happen". It's an interesting idea, but I don't think the answer is to trade our best receiver (arguably best player) for a rookie running back. Does McFadden have the talent and ability to be one of the best? Sure, but that's not a given. He's had enough injury trouble in Arkansas that I wouldn't bet the farm to trade up and get him. At the same time, Owens is a 34 year old receiver and it would be unlikely to get a top 3 pick for him. If some team would make the trade, then Dallas would have a massive hole at receiver that would become the top priority. It was quite well shown in the game against Washington that there just isn't another receiver in Dallas ready to be the #1 guy. So, to come round full circle, interesting theory, but it's just not gonna happen.

Bill Parcells didn't want the younger T.O in Dallas, so I highly doubt he'll be looking to bring an older T.O to Miami. I think the Miami thought process is that Teddy Ginn will evolve into an Owens type receiver. But I'm sure there are some other pieces to the Cowboys that Parcells would like.

Well, I went with Balmer because he was the top player on my board that made sense for the Cowboys at that pick. I don't think DT is the top need position, but he's an athlete that will be hard to keep on the bench. The depth at DT is lacking since Jay Ratliff is supposedly moving to DE full time, which leaves Dallas with an aging Jason Ferguson and Tank Johnson in the middle.

As for the WR and SS positions, I fully agree that they are more pressing needs, but drafting either of those in that position is a reach and I just don't see them doing that. You'll still be able to get a quality receiver like Marcus Monk (Arkansas) and James Hardy (Indiana) or a safety like Tom Zbikowski (Notre Dame) or Marcus Griffin (Texas) in the second or third round. The receiver position has a few prospects that are highly rated and then there's a decent talent gap to the next tier. Whereas there just isn't a first round safety after Kenny Phillips comes off the board. Again, it was mostly a best player available pick.

That's where I'm coming from, not saying it's right or that it's going to happen, but just how I feel right now. It's also pretty early, so it's highly unlikely it stays like that too long.

That early placement on the board is also dependent on Dallas playing in the superbowl...if they stumble and don't make it there, they move up a few slots, and are in a better position for an Early Doucet. The list will continue to change, especially after some of these guys get clocked in the scout combine. The NFL loves speed, and some of the bigger names usually slide in favor of a player not as popular but is a blurr on the track.

The other option is to take a receiver with the first of the two picks, which is also a possibility. But then that leaves Dallas searching for a corner with the second pick. I apologize for the lack of explanation in the mock, we'll get it fixed for the later editions.

Personally I'm thinkin' the Eagles look to DB help in the first round. The Eagles seem to do better picking up WRs in the FA market.

The biggest free agent receiver the Eagles picked up was Terrell Owens, and look at Philly before and after. Reggie Brown was a decent pick up in the second round of '05, but he doesn't require a lot of attention. Philly is still missing a big play receiver, and I don't really see anyone unloading one of theirs.

Living out in Pac 10 country, I'd actually be one of the nay sayers on Desean Jackson. His speed and hands make him very attractive for the first round, but I've yet to see him perform well against a great defense. The best defense he faces, year in and year out is USC, and he's never found the endzone against the Trojans in 3 years. NFL defenses are 10x better than that. If he does declare for the draft, and he hits the combine, I'm sure his stock is going to rise after he's clocked. That alone will keep him in the first round. He's definitely a burner, and the NFL still seems to have a buzz over him, but in my opinion, he's overrated.
